Majique + Sortileges
Majique is the term for magic. Sortilege is the term for a 'Majique' user. Majique is drawn from one's heart and soul, and what connects you to this world and your aligning element.
Majique Elements
There are four types of majique, each with sub-categories that align with them. Each type is most powerful during its corresponding season. Sole-Wielders Summer - Fire - South
These majique users wield light and fire from the sun and are known as 'Sole-Wielders' They tend to be farmers with their photosynthetic majique, allowing them to grow plants to harvest and eat. The sole-wielders were the first and original majique users and native people of the land. They are rare and rumoured to have been wiped out by other wielders, draining their power. That was until the Solegatti silbings arrived in Selene Valley, bearing the distinctive Sole-wilder markings on their hands. Sole-Wielders are rare and live in isolation to protect themselves in 'SunShires', a haven for their people. Dark Sortileges seek them out for their light energy, boosting their own power and burning out a sole-wielder to lose their majique. They are more powerful during the day and more vulnerable during the night. They have a unique marking of the sun on their body, unique to each sole-wielder. These majique users tend to be warm and optimistic, but at their worst, they can burn you with their fire. Vernal-Wielders
Spring - Air - North These majique users wield from the air and the plants.
They can shape-shift and transform plants into other objects, most commonly clothing, like in Madelyn's case. Some can manipulate the air into sound, and they can be musically gifted, like in Makayla's case. These majique users tend to be off with the fairies with their heads in the clouds. They are bold like the colours of spring. At their worst, they can lose touch with reality, and they can use their majique to weave items from toxic plants and air to harm others like in Jaclyn's case.
Havestal-Wielders
Autumn - Earth - East These majique users wield from the roots of the earth. They can read the energy around them from the earth, like the roots of a tree connecting us all together. They can apply this method to reading the body of another by the soles of their feet, like in Juniper's case. They are excellent energy readers and tend to be fortune tellers and healers. Andreas uses his majique to read people's fortunes with his tarot reading. At their worst, they could exploit and blackmail the information they gather from others.
Hivernal-Wielders
Winter - Water - West
These majique users wield from water.
They can manipulate water into potions and turn water into ice. Water can also be used to heal. They tend to be more serious and cold. They can also withstand cold temperatures and prefer to dwell in dark and cold settings, hence Nari lives in the basement.
At their worst, they could use water and ice to harm someone or brew curses to harm others.
Covens
Sorteliege covens consist of four members, each representing the four corners to form and complete a circle to form the fifth element of 'spirit' together.
North - Air - Spring
West - Water - Winter
East - Earth - Autumn
South - Fire - Summer
Outside relationships are not allowed, as they can disrupt the balance and flow of the energy within the circle, so polyamory is not uncommon among covens.
Dark Sortileges
If you find yourself feeling drained and low spirits after being in someone’s presence, chances are you encountered a Dark Sortilege. Dark Sortileges absorb others’ energy to fuel their own energy. Like moths to a bright light, they are mostly drawn to naive and happy people.
Some can be born as a Dark sortilege, while others can become one by focusing their energy on dark intentions and dark Majique. When you cast spells with harmful intentions, you can veer into the dark territory, and it is believed it's impossible to revert. This is why Dark Majique is forbidden taboo.
Dark Sortileges are more powerful at night and when the moon is full. They are weaker during the day.
Hexing and Binding
Hexes are cast by drawing your binding symbol on an object, allowing you to exert control over it. Madelyn hexes Makayla's bass guitar to make obnoxious noises when her symbol is drawn on it.
Curses
Curses are like magical infections; they range from stinky feet to cursed hands and failed music careers. They can be cast by placing specific objects relating to the spell and the target into a container of some kind. Little pouches are the most common.
The curses can be broken if the container is destroyed or by a counter-curse performed with a mirror and the necessary items specific to the person and the curse itself.
Beware, though, if your curse is counter-attacked or broken, that curse you put out will come back to you tenfold, and you can become a Dark-sortilege.
Soul Dance Majique
The ultimate collaboration. When you have a deep connection with someone, you can fuse your majique and increase your power together. It must be mutual and flow naturally, or it won't work. It can't be forced. This can come out from cooking together, or playing music together. Sharing a power together.
