Majique + Sortileges
Majique is the term for magic. Sortilege is the term for a 'Majique' user.
Majique is drawn from one's heart and soul and what connects you to this world and the elements, be it music, cooking, textiles, architecture, or something more nefarious, such as trolling and destroying those you don't like. For instance, Musical majique is based around the element of sound. Sortileges with these Majiquel gifts tend to have high-frequency hearing or siren abilities.
When you lose the heart for something, you will lose your majique for it. But you can always find your heart in something else and spark new majique for it. For example, if your passions die for music or you have a creative block, you won't be able to cast that majique.
Majique Elements
Elemental Air - These majique users tend to be airy with their heads in the clouds. They can be musically gifted, as sound is a subset of air, such as in Makayla's case. Or they can craft illusions, such as in Madelyn's case.
Elemental Earth - These majique users are in-tune with the earth and the roots of history. Their majique can range from reading runes to reflexology, and flora and fauna around them. Juniper falls into this category, as her feet can read the vibrations of the earth around her.
Elemental Water - These majique users usually tend to deal with potions and healing. They tend to be serious, cold, or soothing and intuitive with excellent foresight. Abigail and Andreas are among this category.
Elemental fire - These majique users are rare and tend to be 'Sole-wielders' tied to the sun. They range from being warm to a burning wrath that will burn you. Ashley is among this category.
Dark Sortileges
If you find yourself feeling drained and low spirits after being in someone’s presence, chances are you encountered a Dark Sortilege. Dark Sortileges absorb others’ energy to fuel their own energy. Like moths to a bright light, they are mostly drawn to naive and happy people.
Some can be born as a Dark sortilege, while others can become one by focusing their energy on dark intentions and dark Majique. When you cast spells with harmful intentions, you can veer into the dark territory, and it is believed it's impossible to revert. This is why Dark Majique is forbidden taboo.
Dark Sortileges are more powerful at night and when the moon is full. They are weaker during the day.
Sole-Wielders
Sole-wielders were the first and original Majique-users, drawing their power from the sun. They are more powerful during the day and more vulnerable during the night. They have a unique marking of the sun on their body, unique to each sole-wielder.
They were believed to have died out until the Solegatti siblings arrived in Selene Valley. Ashley and Blake believe themselves to be the last of their kind. Both have matching markings of the sun on their right thumbs.
Sole-Wielders are rare and live in isolation to protect themselves in 'SunShires', a haven for their people. Dark Sortileges seek them out for their light energy, boosting their own power and burning out a sole-wielder to lose their majique.
Hexing and Binding
Hexes are cast by drawing your binding symbol on an object, allowing you to exert control over it. Madelyn hexes Makayla's bass guitar to make obnoxious noises when her symbol is drawn on it.
Curses
Curses are like magical infections; they range from stinky feet to cursed hands and failed music careers. They can be cast by placing specific objects relating to the spell and the target into a container of some kind. Little pouches are the most common.
The curses can be broken if the container is destroyed or by a counter-curse performed with a mirror and the necessary items specific to the person and the curse itself.
Beware, though, if your curse is counter-attacked or broken, that curse you put out will come back to you tenfold, and you can become a Dark-sortilege.
Covens
Sorteliege covens consist of four members, each representing the four corners to form a circle:
North - Air - Spring
West - Water - Winter
East - Earth - Autumn
South - Fire - Summer
Outside relationships are not allowed, as they can disrupt the balance and flow of the energy within the circle, so polyamory is not uncommon among covens.
Soul Dance Majique
The ultimate collaboration. When you have a deep connection with someone, you can fuse your majique and increase your power together. It must be mutual and flow naturally, or it won't work. It can't be forced. This can come out from cooking together, or playing music together. Sharing a power together.
