Terminology

Majique - How magic is properly spelled in the world. 'Commonfolk' misspell it as 'magic' and misinterpret true majique.

Sortilege/Wielder - A 'Majique' user. 'Sortilege' is an older term and is used by ancient wielders such as the Sole-Wielders and those who are knowledgeable of the history of majique. 'Wielder' is the more common modern term. Dark Sortilege/Wielder - A dark/evil majique user.

Commonfolk - The term for non-majique users, who make up 80% of the population.

Majique

Majique is drawn from one's heart and soul, and what connects you to this world and your aligning element. Your aligning element is determined by your personality, rather than where and when you were born.

A person can obtain majique abilities if it resonates with their soul, but most are dismissive of it or fear it. A person can also lose their majique abilities if they lose connection to their soul and the art of majique.

History of Majique

Sortilege Majique is a dying art due to its negative perceptions among the commonfolk. Throughout history, Sortileges were burnt at the stake, accused of being evil, which wiped out a great number of the population. In the modern world, Sortilege Majique isn’t believed to be real by the commonfolk, and you will be dismissed and laughed at.

The Black Solstice - The darkest day in history when a terrible fire broke out, wielded by a Sole-Wielder, killing thousands of people.

Majique Staff

Majique is orchestrated by a staff crafted from sacred wood. It must be crafted by the wielder who intends to use it. Staves come in all shapes and forms, customised by each individual. The most common and classic staff is a branch with various crystals and trinkets bound into it. Some wielders have integrated their musical instruments into staffs when crafted from sacred wood.

Staves are summoned depending on the cardinal direction of each element.

☾ Hivernal-Wielder staffs are summoned from the direction the sun sets. (West)

𓋼 Harvestial-Wielder staffs are summoned from the ground below their feet. (South)

𖤓 Sole-Wielder staffs are summoned from the direction the sun rises (east) They are summoned away in opposite directions.

❀ Vernal-Wielder staffs are summoned away towards the earth (South)

☾ Hivernal-Wielder staffs are summoned away towards the sun and light (East)

𓋼 Harvestial-Wielder staffs are summoned away towards the air above (North)

𖤓 Sole-Wielder staffs are summoned away towards where the sun sets in the shadows (West)

Majique Elements

There are four types of Majique-wielders which align with each element and season, as follows:

Vernal-Wielders: Spring - Air - North 

Sole-Wielders: Summer - Fire - East

Hivernal-Wielders: Winter - Water - West

Havestal-Wielders: Autumn - Earth - South

Covens

Sorteliege covens consist of four members, each representing the four corners to form and complete a circle to form the fifth element of 'spirit' together.

North - Air - Spring

West - Water - Winter

East - Fire - Summer

South - Earth - Autumn

Outside relationships are not allowed, as they can disrupt the balance and flow of the energy within the circle, so polyamory is not uncommon among covens.

Dark Sortileges

If you find yourself feeling drained and low spirits after being in someone’s presence, chances are you encountered a Dark Sortilege. Dark Sortileges absorb others’ energy to fuel their own energy. Like moths to a bright light, they are mostly drawn to naive and happy people.

Some can be born as a Dark sortilege, while others can become one by focusing their energy on dark intentions and dark Majique. When you cast spells with harmful intentions, you can veer into the dark territory, and it is believed it's impossible to revert. This is why Dark Majique is forbidden taboo.

Hexing and Binding

Hexes are cast by drawing your binding symbol on an object, allowing you to exert control over it. You can bind a person to an object and also bind your property from being entered by anyone, unless they are invited in.

Curses

Curses are like magical infections; they range from stinky feet to cursed hands and failed music careers. They can be cast by placing specific objects relating to the spell and the target into a container of some kind. Little pouches are the most common.

The curses can be broken if the container is destroyed or by a counter-curse performed with a mirror and the necessary items specific to the person and the curse itself.

Beware, though, if your curse is counter-attacked or broken, that curse you put out will come back to you tenfold, and you can become a Dark-sortilege.

Soul Dance Majique

The ultimate collaboration. When you have a deep connection with someone, you can fuse your majique and increase your power together. It must be mutual and flow naturally, or it won't work. It can't be forced. This can come out from cooking together, or playing music together. Sharing a power together.

Familiars

Familiars are pets a Sortilege feels bound to. Nari relies on her raven as her telephone. Ashley has their cat, Stella, and Andreas has his black cat, Anubis.
